VOYAGE: ALONE ACROSS THE ATLANtic
VOYAGE: ALONE ACROSS THE ATLANtic
Mocking words in the face of failure. Optimism that might have saved them. Daily mantra for the 23-year-old captain of a tiny rowboat struggling with every stroke to make even the slightest headway against a vast and unforgiving ocean.
On June 10, 2006 four young men embark upon the journey of a lifetime: a dream two-years in the making. But within weeks, they are at the edge of delirium, mental breakdown, and starvation: completely at the mercy of the turbulent and defiant North Atlantic.
Their original goal: be the first Americans to row unassisted across the treacherous waters of the North Atlantic, the first ever to cross mainland to mainland, and defeat three other crews in identical boats in a race toward the deadliest coast on Earth.
Above all it was a quest for adventure. Too quickly it became an adventure beyond all expectations…
“today gentlemen, we are closer to england
than we have ever been.”
“In any race or any game there is always that moment when you have a choice. Are you going to push a little extra, or are you just going to turn it down a fraction just because your tired? And that’s the decisive moment in any race or any sporting event, any battle.”
